FAQ

What is the retainer fee?

The retainer fee is a non-refundable payment which locks in your shoot’s date and time.

Beyond reserving your date, the retainer pays for services we provide before the shoot, including meetings with you, our time invested for preparation of contracts/agreements, advance creation of your gallery, and other initial expenses.

How much is the retainer fee?

No surprises! We’ll talk about the retainer fee early in our discussions with you.

The retainer fee varies based on the total value of your contract. The current range is $50 (mini-sessions) to $1,000 for a larger contracts of $4,000 or more.

When do I have to pay you?

The retainer fee is due when you book and sign your contract with us.

Depending on the type & value of your contract, and how far in the future we will be providing services, we may set up two to four additional payments leading up to your shoot.

If you would like a “pay over time” option, please let us know prior to booking.

Can I have a second shooter?

Absolutely! Having a second shooter is always an option with Scott Hertzog Photography. We’re not a “one man band” as our name seems to indicate.

Are you insured?

Yes, we are fully insured!

If you or your venue needs a certificate of insurance, please let us know.

What kinds of photography do you offer?

We are a group of experienced photographers who skillfully shoot popular genres like family portraits, pets, weddings, engagements, senior portraits, sports, parties, headshots, product, corporate branding, boudoir, fashion, athletic, automotive, business marketing imagery, and aerial drone photo/video.

How long will it be until my gallery is ready?

Our goal is to post your gallery within ten weeks from the shoot, but we often deliver much sooner!

The timing depends on a variety of factors and will be agreed to in your contract.

Do you have a backup system?

We take extreme care in preserving images starting the day of your shoot!

Upon returning from your shoot, we copy all image files to our primary editing computer using folders which are continually cloud synchronized.

We also copy the image files to our DiskStation NAS (Network Attached Storage). This system has multiple mirrored drives and is backed up to Amazon S3 Glacier Cloud every day.

We DO NOT use portable SSDs/hard drives in our workflow or for backup purposes because they often fail without warning. We do not cut corners.

How long will my gallery be available?

Your gallery will be available for at least 90 days after we notify you that it’s ready.

We’ll also maintain an archival backup on our DiskStation (and Amazon Cloud) for a minimum of one year.

You may purchase all images as digital downloads – please contact us for pricing if it is not listed as an option in your gallery.

Do you include digital images?

We provide several pricing options for purchase of digital images with a self-print release: single image, a set quantity of images (ex. 10, 25, 50, 100), or the entire gallery.

Do I get the copyright to or ownership of my photos?

No. We retain copyright and ownership of all images.

We do offer digital downloads with licensing for personal (non-commercial) use.

Commercial Licensing may be available for purchase. Please contact us to review this option.

What products can I buy from you?

We sell prints, framed prints, keepsake albums, digital downloads, greeting cards, mugs, calendars, bookmarks, metal prints, canvas prints, and lots more!

What kind of cameras do you use?

We shoot with multiple Canon R5 professional mirrorless cameras with a variety of RF L-Series professional lenses.

Depending on the type of shoot, we may also use our GoPro cameras or one of our drones.

We arrive to every shoot with a supply of extra batteries and multiple sets of memory cards.

What if your camera or lens breaks?

We do everything we can to keep our business running smoothly, including routine cleaning and maintenance.

To keep our equipment working at its best, we are a Canon Professional Services member. This allows us to receive expedited equipment repairs, equipment loans,  event support, and dedicated phone and email support.
